Ljubljana, the UNESCO City of Literature, has opened the call for applications for 2020 for the Writers' Residence under the Writer in the Park program. Applications can be submitted by authors from UNESCO Cities of Literature, including Ulyanovsk. Selected candidates are provided with accommodation for a month and a stipend.
Among the requirements for candidates are the presence of at least one officially published book and knowledge of English.
Following the selection, two authors will be invited to work for a month in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia (in May and November 2020), and at the end of the work, the author will be able to present his project at the presentation. Each resident will live in a separate and fully equipped apartment with a kitchenette in the famous cultural, educational and exhibition house Švicarija, located in the beautiful Tivoli Park. Also, each resident will receive a scholarship (1000 euros).
While working in the residence, the author must create a short text (story, essay, series of poems) related in one way or another to Ljubljana and the central concept of the Švicarija center “community, art and nature”. These texts will be translated into Slovenian and published in literary media.
Residents will also be able to take part in local literary events and meet representatives of the Slovenian literary community.
Applications are accepted until February 29, 2020.
The application form and detailed information about the residence and the conditions for the selection of candidates can be found here.
Recall that in 2018 the first guest of the residence in Ljubljana under the program "Writer in the Park" was the Ulyanovsk author, who worked on the project "Slovenia: sounds & poetry".
