The opening of the festival "Days of Germany" will be held on the Lower Terrace

The festival of German culture, traditional for Ulyanovsk, will open this year with public talks about literature and art, photo exhibitions and music. Everything will happen on August 19 at the House of Culture named after May 1 in the Zavolzhsky district. Start at 16.00. Free admission!

Opening program:

16:00 - Public talk about art with Marcela Villanueva, curator of art projects from Berlin, actively developing Latin American art in Germany. The conversation is led by cultural manager Anna Carvaleiru.

17:30 - Public talk about literature in Germany and Russia with Frank Barsch, writer, literary and theater critic from Heidelberg, the UNESCO City of Literature. The conversation is led by the writer, host of the literary studio "Eight" Sergei Gogin.

19:00 - Opening of the festival. Greetings from the organizers and partners.

19:30 - Music program. Acoustic concert of the Ulyanovsk group "The Sun Three Hups". Performance by a guest from Germany - Laura Volk, soloist of the group "Luna & Lewis" from Mannheim - the city of music of UNESCO.

For people living in central Europe, the eastern countries are a special cultural habitat, and I am happy to get acquainted with the culture of your country,” said Laura Volk.

Also on this day, the opening of a joint Russian-German photo exhibition "Focus to the East" and "Focus to the West", prepared by the German association Kultur Aktiv represented by curator Matthias Schumann and Ulyanovsk photographers. The exhibition reflects the view of photographers from different parts of the world on two sides of the world - east and west.

The organizers of the Festival are the "Ulyanovsk - Capital of Culture" Foundation and the Directorate of the "Ulyanovsk - UNESCO City of Literature" program with the support of the Government of the Ulyanovsk Region and the Administration of the city of Ulyanovsk. The festival is funded by the German Embassy in Russia as part of the Days of Germany in the Russian Regions project.

The festival of German culture "Days of Germany" was first held in Ulyanovsk in 2009 as part of the program "Managers in the field of culture of the Robert Bosch Foundation in the Russian Federation". Within the framework of this program, three cultural managers worked for 6 years in Ulyanovsk and implemented various Russian-German cultural projects in partnership with the Ministry of Art and Cultural Policy and the Ulyanovsk - Cultural Capital Foundation. Since 2015, the initiative to hold the festival has been supported by the Foundation and the Directorate of the Ulyanovsk – UNESCO City of Literature program.
