The project of regional libraries (Palace of Books) became the winner in the online voting category "The most impressive library project" at the All-Russian competition "The Most Reading Region 2023"

We congratulate our colleagues and are glad that the events of the directorate “Ulyanovsk - UNESCO City of Literature” were included in the competition application. Based on the results of online voting, the project of the Ulyanovsk region called “Movement “For People's Reading”” received 97% of the votes.

The participants of the directorate's foreign youth community showed the residents of Ulyanovsk and the guests of the city the beauty of the clothes of India, Vietnam and Azerbaijan, arranging a bright fashion show, Indian girls danced incendiary national dances, and a student from Egypt prepared a beautiful vocal number

The program was intense! Santa Claus and Snow Maiden came from different parts of the region to delight children and adults with songs and games. There were interactive platforms with quizzes, master classes, board games and book exhibitions. It was also possible to taste national dishes and get ice cream for a poem.

In the nomination "Formation of Russian identity, unity of the Russian nation, promotion of intercultural and interfaith dialogue", Daria Fokina became the winner of the II degree with the project "Interethnic and cultural dialogue of the peoples of the world to strengthen friendship and form a hospitable image of Russia"

The project team includes the directorate of Ulyanovsk - UNESCO Literary City, and more than 25 events were held throughout the year, where foreign students got acquainted with the traditions and culture of the peoples of Russia and the Volga region. The criteria by which the competition commission evaluated the projects consisted of 8 points: relevance, creativity, efficiency, professionalism, targeting, replicability, scale and publicity.

Also among the authors of the winning projects in other nominations are representatives of the city's cultural Management institutions - Anna Prishchemikhina (winner of the III degree, "Youth Media"), Polina Petrova (winner of the III degree, "Creativity") (MBUK CBS) and Alexander Karavashkin (winner of the II degree, "Healthy Lifestyle") (Directorate Ulyanovsk parks)

Ulyanovsk, as a UNESCO literary city, is a permanent participant in international projects of the creative Network

In 2023, at the invitation of the creative City of Gastronomy of Tucson (USA) and the International Foundation for Creative Knowledge, Ulyanovsk joined the UNESCO Bread of Creative Cities project and spoke about literary, gastronomic and tourist features.
The Ulyanovsk project team, together with the management, included Elena Yezhova, a well-known restaurateur in the city, and Denis Kashin, a brand chef. Especially for the project, representatives of the field of gastronomy have created a unique recipe for bread from different varieties of flour – "Kolobok (Kolobyatka)" — based on historical data.

 
And we share our joy — now the history of Ulyanovsk bread traditions, the biography of the brand chef, the recipe for cooking "Kolobok" and information about where this dish is prepared in our city is published on the website of this international project.
Why exactly "Kolobok ("Kolobyatka")"? As you remember, it is Simbirsk that is considered the birthplace of this famous fairy-tale character. According to Vladimir Dahl's explanatory dictionary, residents of our city used the word "kolebyatka", which meant "the last dough from the sourdough".

The Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate continues to cover the events of a business visit to the Turkish city of Kahramanmaraş at the IV International Poetry and Prose Days. Turkish and Russian youth met in Kahramanmaraş and discussed the topics of culture, creativity, language and education. The session was called “UNESCO City of Literature. Life of a student in Russia"

⁣Our city was represented by Leila Huseynova, the student of UlSTU - she studies intercultural communications, speaks English, Chinese and Azerbaijani, and actively participates in the Directorate’s events. Stefan Ratert, Ph.D., professor of English at Kahramanmaraş University, became the moderator of the session.

English was chosen as a language of discussion. The conversation was relaxed, and Leila told the participants that for a year now, as part of cooperation between Ulyanovsk universities and the Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate, she has been participating in projects with foreigners and Russian-speaking students. When the students received an invitation from Marash, the girl expressed a desire to participate and supported this with her ability to speak English.

Schoolchildren and students of Kahramanmaraş asked many questions - about school and student life, about books young people read, about interesting sights in Ulyanovsk. Before this meeting, many participants did not know about our city. It was great to see their interest and desire to learn more about us. Unity and cultural exchange unite our countries, and we believe such meetings are extremely important.

The community of international students of the Ulyanovsk- UNESCO Literary City Directorate will become part of a big New Year's holiday — the Regional exhibition of national costumes "In folk Style", which will be held on December 22 at the Palace of Books

Дирекция "Ульяновск - литературный город ЮНЕСКО" делится радостью – мы стали лауреатами ежегодной международной премии года «Достижение Плюс-2023»

В номинации «Продвижение, развитие и поддержка креативных проектов» лауреатом стала руководитель дирекции Елена Черкас, дирекции также было вручено Благодарственное письмо от организаторов премии.
Торжественная церемония награждения победителей прошла в торгово-промышленной палате Ульяновской области, где были подведены годовые итоги работы.

В мероприятии приняли участие представители различных сфер деятельности. Творческую программу мероприятия украсило выступление палестинского вокалиста, который показал музыкальность русской поэзии и спел песню на стих Александра Пушкина «Я Вас любил».

The annual conference "The role of creative Industries in the socio-economic development of tourist areas, including those included in the UNESCO Network of Creative Cities" was held in St. Petersburg. The event is organized under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO

On December 13, First Deputy Mayor Inna Mitrofanova and Head of the Directorate of Ulyanovsk — UNESCO Literary City Elena Cherkas presented the experience of Ulyanovsk as a UNESCO literary city online at a plenary session devoted to the development of creative territories through traditions and innovations.
The session participants learned about the cultural code of the city based on the literary heritage, as well as about the transformation of the tourist image of Ulyanovsk with an emphasis on the creative potential of history and modernity. The names of Nikolai Karamzin, Ivan Goncharov, Denis Davydov, Nikolai Yazykov, Dmitry Sadovnikov and others were heard.
UNESCO Deputy Director General for Culture Ernesto R. Ottone, Second Secretary of the Secretariat of the Russian Federation Commission for UNESCO Anna Ermachenkova and other representatives of creative cities of Russia and foreign countries made welcoming speeches.

"Ulyanovsk has been in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network program for 8 years and works in two main directions: the organization of literary and creative projects together with the urban community and international cooperation. Since the city was included in the Network, Ulyanovsk and the region have been assigned the status of "The Literary flagship of Russia", "The most reading region", "The Territory of books and reading", etc. The historical and literary heritage and rich cultural and entertainment program attract the attention of citizens and guests of the city, this is reflected in the flow of tourists, which increased by 15%. During our stay in the international creative Network, we have accumulated experience that is of interest to colleagues from the regions of Russia and other countries," said Elena Toporkova, Head of the Department of Culture and Leisure of the Population of Ulyanovsk.

About 1,000 people from Russia, China, Benin, Serbia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Cuba, Tajikistan, Belarus and others took part in the conference offline and online.

The UNESCO Creative Cities Network program was established in 2004 to expand cooperation between cities that consider culture and creativity as a strategic element of socio-economic development. To date, the Network has 350 cities in more than a hundred countries, 53 cities represent the direction of "Literature". Ulyanovsk was the first in Russia to join this international Network and is the only UNESCO literary city in our country.

The program includes thematic sections dedicated to UNESCO Cities of Literature, as well as discussions on the topic of the development of youth literature

“The participation of the delegation from Ulyanovsk in the IV International Poetry and Literature Days in Kahramanmaraş will strengthen partnerships with foreign colleagues. Our city will present the key projects implemented by the Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate to the world literary community. Kahramanmaraş is a Candidate UNESCO City of Literature and is demonstrating great interest in Ulyanovsk’s experience in promoting literature and reading,” noted Elena Toporkova, Head of the Department of Culture and Recreation of the Ulyanovsk Administration.

The literary mega-event will take place in Kahramanmaras from December 7 to 12. The delegation included the Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate and a student from the Ulyanovsk State Technical University.
Elena Cherkas, the Head of the Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate,  will present the experience of developing the field of literature and related creative industries within the UCCN to the literary communities of different countries. The presentation will also include the results of work within the UCCN over 8 years - since Ulyanovsk's designation in 2015, international and municipal projects of past years, as well as plans for 2024.  Leila Huseynova, a representative of active student youth, UlSTU student, studying intercultural communications, will perform in a section related to readings of world literature poems in English and Turkish. This will become part of the Directorate's work on interaction between student communities of different countries.

Let us remind you that Ulyanovsk joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2015 and was designated a City of Literature. Our city became the first Russian city in this UCCN. The Network currently includes 350 cities in more than one hundred countries.

Исторические факты о здании филармонии. Раньше оно было зданием Общественного собрания (или клуба соединенного общества). Его архитектором был Федор Ливчак, который создал немало красивейших зданий в Симбирске.

Архитектор Федор Осипович Ливчак был ярким представителем блестящей плеяды русских архитекторов начала XX века. С его именем связано изобретение системы строительства из пустотелых бетонных блоков, нашедшей широкое применение в Симбирске начала XX века. Он обладал широкой научно-теоретической подготовкой, был знатоком строительной техники и экспериментатором, сумевшим проявить себя не только в профессии, но и в организации строительного производства, связанного с собственными изобретениями.

- Симбирское отделение государственного крестьянского поземельного и дворянского земельного банков (1911) (ныне административный корпус УлГУ)

В 2011 году ульяновский краевед С. Петров в статье "Колоб" словаря В.И. Даля нашел слово "колебятка", что означает "последнее тесто из квашни". По Далю, диалектное слово "колебятка" употреблялось в Симбирской губернии.

Колобок происходит от слова «колоб», а колоб - это небольшой круглый хлеб, который в Симбирской губернии называли «колебятка». Колебятка – последний хлеб из квашни. Таким образом, колобок является литературным сказочным героем неразрывно связан с историей Симбирска.
