Состоялась пресс-конференция фестиваля "Аркадия"
On July 20, a large press conference was held at the Youth Center for Contemporary Art dedicated to the "Arcadia" I International Arts Festival, which will be held in Ulyanovsk from August 24 to September 3
The events of the festival will take place on the pedestrian part of Federation Street, the territory of the former Suvorov School, the Ulyanovsk river port and in branches of the Ulyanovsk Regional Art Museum.
The Festival program will take place over two weekends. The first weekend will take place from August 24 to 27: Music lovers can expect concert performances by “Settlers” (St. Petersburg), “Tima is looking for light” (Moscow), “Sirotkin” (Moscow), and the duet “Alexey Borisov and Katya Rekk" (Moscow), "Night Prospect" (Moscow), "Pole" (St. Petersburg), "Sister" and "Boy" (St. Petersburg), InterText contemporary ensemble music band (Ekaterinburg), “Governor” Ulyanovsk State Symphony Orchestra under the baton of chief conductor Eduard Dyadiura, etc. The “Arcadia. MUSIC” showcase will present the local musical groups in various genres.
For the “Night Arcadia” block of events, experimental electronic music performances and a series of theatrical screenings are planned.
Also, as part of the Arcadia International Arts Festival, a two-day program of UNESCO Creative Cities will be held in the field of literature and publishing. The ‘Crossroads’ festival will bring together more than ten independent book publishing houses from all over Russia: AD Marginem (Moscow), A+A children's publishing house (Moscow), MIF publishing house (Moscow), GARAGE Museum of Contemporary Art publishing house (Moscow), Ulyanovsk Printing House, V-A-C Press (Moscow), "Tsiolkovsky" bookstore publishing house (Moscow), No Kidding Press publishing house.
A parallel festival program includes lectures, workshops, discussions and book presentations. A school of scientific comics for children and their parents from the Future Time Foundation and the “Platinum Age” young writer’s workshop are planned as part of the “Region for the Young” program of the Ministry of Youth Development of the Ulyanovsk Region and a lot of other amazing events. The premiere of the “This is Pushkin!” project which is the winner of the second competition of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives (PFCI) is also in the program; it will be implemented by the Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate together with the Ulyanovsk Regional Art Museum and the “Center for Development and Support of Creative Projects “Simbirsk” Autonomous Non-profit Organization.
The second weekend from September 1 to 3 will be dedicated to the “Plastov Autumn” XIII International Assembly of Artists. Residents and guests of the city can expect large exhibition projects from the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin.

The festival is supported by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Ulyanovsk Region and the Ministry of Art and Cultural Policy of the Ulyanovsk Region. A festival of such a scale will take place thanks to the support of the governor of the Ulyanovsk region, Alexey Yuryevich Russkikh.

We are happy to share the good news with you! The “This is Pushkin!: Creative Literary City Tours” won in the second competition of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives and will be implemented by Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature together with the Ulyanovsk Regional Art Museum and the “Center for Development and Support of Creative Projects “Simbirsk”” Autonomous Non-profit Organization.
“The creative concept of the event involves solving the problem of reading popularization in the region, increasing interest in Russian literature through creative industries and developing public-private partnerships. This is the uniqueness of our project, which will be launched on the eve of the anniversary of the great Russian writer and poet Alexander Pushkin. The initiative will allow us to combine the efforts of cultural institutions and small businesses in the popularization of Russian culture, native language and literary creativity,” stated Elena Cherkas, the Head of the Directorate.
The project includes:
Development of walking routes, research events in archives;
Staging routes with the participation of actors of the Ulyanovsk Youth Theater, young poets and local restaurateurs;
Presentation of routes to the general public;
Inclusion of tours into city events list available through the Pushkin Card Program. The project is designed for residents of Ulyanovsk, municipalities and local communities involved in creative work, research and revaluation of literary cultural heritage.
The project will be implemented in Ulyanovsk by the end of 2023.

The “Bulletin of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO” magazine is published in English and Russian and distributed in 193 UNESCO member states
The article about Ulyanovsk was published on four pages in the summer issue under the title “Ulyanovsk: The Literary Flagship of Russia”.
“Think globally, act locally” is the motto of the city’s creative team. Diana Kovela (Creative Industries Foundation) and Elena Cherkas (Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate) discussed how the literary process in Russia is being integrated into the international agenda and the sustainable brand “Creative Ulyanovsk” is being formed. They listed priority international projects, including:
- “International Writers’ Residence” for poets and writers from UNESCO Cities of Literature, which started in Ulyanovsk in 2019;
- International project “The Only Question”, initiated by Ulyanovsk. 40 authors from 18 UNESCO Cities of Literature asked each other creative questions. As a result, an online collection was released;
- Participation in the “Chain Poem” International Project (UNESCO Creative City of Utrecht, the Netherlands);
- “UNESCO Creative Cities of the BRICS Countries: Let’s Create Together” Creative Cooperation Program;
- “Crossroads” I Festival of UNESCO Creative Cities, which was held in 2022 with the participation of all UNESCO Creative Cities in Russia, etc.
What's in the plans: the creation of an open-air museum on the UNESCO Alley in Ulyanovsk, the development of a large photo exhibition, plein airs, festivals and creative collaborations.

Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate is a partner of the “Arcadia” International Arts Festival together with the City Administration and the Department of Culture
The festival is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of Arkady Plastov, People's Artist of the USSR, and the preservation of the cultural heritage of the region, the popularization of classical and contemporary art among the general public of Russia. Since 2015, Ulyanovsk is a part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. We became the first Russian city in the UCCN. Annually, Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature hosts over 50 events in the field of creative industries, half of them includes participants from countries all over the world.

On July 2, the directorate took part as honorary guests in the graduation ceremony for medical students. The Directorate noted the importance of strengthening cultural ties and cooperation with friendly India. Agreements have been reached to continue work on the socio-cultural adaptation of students from India.
The head of the directorate, Elena Cherkas, presented letters of thanks to the most active children. We wish our medical graduates professional success and prosperity to our friends, and we hope that when they return to their homeland, the guys will take away the most pleasant memories of our country. This contributes to the interethnic and cultural dialogue of the peoples of the world in order to strengthen friendship and form a hospitable image of Russia.

During the event, a meeting with Subrat Das, the Minister of Education and CW of the Indian Ambassy in Russia and Jitendra Kumar, the director of the Medi Care Global Education Agency took place.
During the conversation, all parties expressed satisfaction with cooperation in the field of social adaptation of students from India. Agreements were reached on the continuation of work as well as on the exchange of cultural values in order to bring peoples closer together and develop friendly ties.

1 июля в Ульяновск с деловым визитом прибыл министр образования и CW посольства Индии в России Субрат Дас
On July 1, Subrat Das, the Minister of Education and CW of the Indian Embassy in Russia visited Ulyanovsk.
The program of the Minister’s stay in Ulyanovsk included the graduation ceremony for the UlSU students from India, tours around the city, meetings with the regional administration and the heads of the university as well as exchange of best practices in the field of cultural cooperation and social adaptation.
Today, at the Creative Industries Fund of the Ulyanovsk Region, under the leadership of Vadim Ivanovich Andreev, the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Ulyanovsk region, a conversation took place about the prospects for the development of friendly ties between Russia and India. The participants discussed the events where Indian youth studying in our city are already taking part as well as work in international projects, including BRICS countries.
The prospects for cooperation were also discussed. Among the participants of the meeting were Jitendra Kumar, the director of the Medi Care Global Education Agency, Diana Kovela, the Program Director for Russia-BRICS International Cooperation Program, and Elena Cherkas, the Head of the Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate.
