On September, 8 at 11 AM Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature invites you to participate in a creative tour "Yes, Pushkin!": "Pugachev in Simbirsk. History and myths".
Do you know what was one of the reasons why Pushkin came to Simbirsk in 1833?
Simbirsk turned out to be the only major city in the Volga region that did not surrender to the leader of the peasant revolt, Pugachev. This fact struck Pushkin. The great poet came to our city to collect valuable historical materials. They formed the basis of two works by Pushkin - "History of the Pugachev uprising" and the "The Captain's Daughter" story ".
We invite you to immerse yourself in the history of Simbirsk and to do this, go on a unique journey - a creative tour along the "Pugachev route".
On this journey, we will “meet” famous personalities of the 18th-19th centuries: the commander Alexander Suvorov, the historian Nikolai Karamzin, the Yazykov brothers, Alexander Pushkin and even the high school student Volodya Ulyanov (Lenin). And, of course, with Emelyan Pugachev. He will appear before us as Simbirsk saw him, and will deliver his famous monologue (a professional actor will act as a rebel).
Our route will start by the Lenin Square and continue to the monument to Bogdan Khitrovo, through the Literary Museum "House of the Yazykovs" and Karamzin Square. We will also visit the territory of the Governor's Palace, where in the 19th century Pushkin saw the walls and buildings of the Spassky Convent, the Cadet Corps, the monument to Suvorov, Theater Square and the embankment of the Volga River. At each stage of the route, you will feel the atmosphere of the legends about Pushkin's stay in Simbirsk.
The tour will end in the Historical and Memorial Center-Museum of I. A. Goncharov, where we will have an interesting conversation “From Petrusha to Peter: through the pages of A.S. Pushkin". Lecturer - Tatyana Bulatova, laureate of the International Literary Prize named after I. A. Goncharov, candidate of philological sciences, writer, development director of the Floberium literary agency and school.

On August 25, a presentation of the “This is Pushkin!” Creative Gastronomic City Tour took place in Ulyanovsk, dedicated to the 190th anniversary of the poet’s visit to Simbirsk
Residents and guests of the city from Moscow and Penza, representatives of the region's media, popular bloggers and active citizens took a walking tour through the central part of Ulyanovsk together with Natalya Sivtseva, professional guide.
The participants went to the “House of Yazikovs” literary museum. Here they were greeted by Nikolai Yazykov “himself”, who spoke about his friendship with the poet.
On the esplanade, the daughter of the Simbirsk governor Zagryazhsky, Lizonka, spoke about her relationship with the family of the great poet.
"The excursion is simply amazing! Extremely engaging! This was probably the best way to spend a Friday morning. There was exactly as much information as you needed. We thank the guide for the interesting story about Pushkin and our beloved city of Ulyanovsk. And I really liked the format of the excursion with tasting - heartfelt, unusual, unique. We will recommend it to our friends. This tour is definitely worth taking,” Roxana, city tour participant, shared with us.
The route map also included Karamzin Square, the Volga River embankment, Theater Square, the Suvorov Monument and the cadet corps.
How did this journey end? We will tell you later!

We thank our partners - restaurants "Khmeli-Kartveli" and "Nino" for their cooperation within the framework of the “This is Pushkin!” project. On August 25, the participants of the “Yes, Puskin!” tour set out on an exciting journey through the historical center of Simbirsk and visited the places Alexander Pushkin visited 190 years ago
How are restaurants and literature connected?
Let Puskin answer the question - we read in his diaries: “Usually my lunch goes like this: in a restaurant I read either a new novel or magazines. If Walter Scott and Cooper have not written anything, and there is no criminal trial in the newspapers, then I demand a bottle of champagne on ice, watch the glass freeze from the cold, drink slowly, rejoicing that dinner costs me seventeen rubles and that I can afford this mischief."
At the end of the fascinating gastro-tour "Yes, Pushkin!" everyone had an opportunity to taste traditional Simbirsk dishes at the NINO restaurant, where the pleasant atmospheres of Simbirsk of the 19th century and the current century meshed together.
"We felt like real aristocrats of the 19th century. I am delighted that I took part in the project. We walked through the center of Ulyanovsk, people looked at us and probably thought we were tourists. But we are locals! And despite this, many facts were fascinating to us. Everything that we learned today was quite unusual. There is so much more to study in Ulyanovsk! Therefore, we recommend the tour "Yes, Pushkin!" to everyone, - said a participant of the tour Yulia.
We thank the partners - Khmeli-Kartveli restaurant and khinkalnaya and NINO restaurant for cooperation within the framework of the project "Yes, Pushkin!"
The tour became a part of the Arcadia and Crossroads.Literature festivals. The project is being implemented with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives (PFCI) of the Ulyanovsk Regional Art Museum, the Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate and the Center for the Development and Support of Creative Projects "Simbirsk".
At the invitation of Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate to the Arcadia International Arts Festival and the “Crossroads” Festival of UNESCO Creative Cities, delegation from Kahramanmaraş, Turkey visited Ulyanovsk.

During the tour, the participants learned about facts and myths related to the great poet’s stay in our city as well as the gastronomic features of Simbirsk cuisine of the 19th century.
The excursion started with a visit to the khinkalnaya. It is no coincidence - next to this building, the poet’s path lay during his visit to Simbirsk. Guests were introduced to a specially designed menu based on the preferences of Alexander Pushkin.
Among the participants were city residents and guests from Moscow and Penza, representatives of the region’s media, popular bloggers, and active citizens.
“I have taken many city tours in my life, and I can say for sure that “This is Pushkin!” is a very special project, it is real and sincere. The tour was very impressive. The format of such a cultural event with tasting in the program is unusual. It was nice to learn about and try the dishes that Pushkin loved. We are grateful to the organizers and have already planned to take another tour again, with a friend from Penza, she was also here today and is delighted!” – said Guzel, the city tour participant.

New project “This is Pushkin!”: creative literary city tours in Ulyanovsk around the places Alexander Pushkin visited 190 years ago.
The project won the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives competition (PFCI).
“This is Pushkin!” is an attempt to explore the modern urban environment and create alternative tourist routes. They are based on historical facts about Pushkin’s stay in Simbirsk in 1833, unfortunately scattered and incomplete, and modern legends and myths about this journey.
“Our goal was to unite those who under normal circumstances rarely work together in one project - historians, professional tour guides, restaurateurs, representatives of small and medium-sized businesses, writers and philologists, actors, officials. The project involves 25 performers and 10 participating organizations. Thanks to the project, two exclusive tourist walking routes will be created: “Gastronomic” and “Pugachevsky”. This is an innovation in the regional tourism and two new events in the Pushkin Card program. As a result of the project, the outreach among the youth audience – Pushkin Card holders - will be 5 thousand people. This is a significant result, both educational and economic,” say the project organizers.
Information about the city tours will be posted on the Arcadia Festival telegram channel https://t.me/arkadiafest and the Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature group on the social network: https://vk.com/ulcreat.mukcbs.orgru
The presentation of the first city tour will take place on August 25 at the Arcadia Arts Festival.
