January 21. Literary studio "Eight". Novels by Guzel Yakhina
20.01.2021

January 21, at 18.30, in the library number 8 in Ulyanovsk will be a new meeting of the Literary Studio "Eight". This time it is proposed to talk about the novels of Guzel Yakhina. You can also join the discussion online.

From the moderator of the poet's studio, journalist Sergey Gogin

The most famous of Yakhina's novels is Zuleikha Opens Her Eyes, which brought three awards to its author in 2015: Big Book, Yasnaya Polyana, and Book of the Year.

“I wanted to convey the idea that even in a very great grief a grain of future happiness can be hidden. […] By and large, this is a book about overcoming mythological consciousness. It doesn’t matter if it’s male or female,” the author writes about Zuleikha... "

The novel has been translated into 20 languages, and a TV series was based on it, which caused a flurry of criticism not of the series, but of the novel. It is surprising that with such reader attention, there were critics who considered the novel "an apology for lack of spirituality and betrayal", others deny the author knowledge of Tatar life, one writer called her language "primitive", which is categorically impossible to agree with, especially after reading her second novel, My Children, which also won the Big Book Award. If "Zuleikha ..." was originally written as a script, which was reflected in the language of prose, then "My Children" is literature of the highest standard, rich, imaginative, deep. We will pay even more attention to this novel. (By the way, director Alexei Uchitel is going to film this novel).

Let's talk about all this.
