V Ulyanovsk - the city of literature of UNESCO - the grand opening of the monument to Lermontov took place. The bust was installed in the square between houses No. 85-89 on Leo Tolstoy Street. Presumably, it was here in the 18th century that the estate of the family of Alexei Emelyanovich Stolypin, the great-grandfather of the poet, was located. And Stolypin's daughter, who grew up in this house, was Mikhail Yuryevich's grandmother and was the closest person to him. Among the biographers of the poet, she even received the title of "the most famous grandmother of Russian literature."

The bust was made and donated free of charge to the Krasnodar sculptural workshop of Mikhail Serdyukov as part of the All-Russian project "Walk of Russian Glory". Its idea is that sculptures of famous personalities of the country are given to educational organizations free of charge in order to educate the younger generation. As a gift to our city, the bust of Lermontov was sent to the Mariinsky Gymnasium, but they found a more significant installation site for him than the school grounds.

The main initiator of the installation of the monument was the famous Ulyanovsk local historian Sergei Petrov. He came up with this idea last year.

“Unfortunately, the house of Lermontov's relatives, located in Simbirsk, burned down in 1864, but his memory must live on in our city. And putting up a good monument is very expensive. But I found out that there is such a philanthropist, Mikhail Serdyukov, who makes busts. I contacted him. This gift was brought to us two and a half years after that, he was waiting in the wings, and finally we adequately immortalized the memory of Lermontov in our city,” the local historian shared.
