Ulyanovsk residents are encouraged to donate books
08.02.2021

February 14 is International Giving Day. From February 8 to February 14, Ulyanovsk city libraries will join the All-Russian campaign "Give Books with Love - 2021", organized by the Association of Cultural, Artistic and Educational Workers to introduce children to reading "Raising the Reader" with the support of the Russian State Children's Library.

The idea of the holiday belongs to the American Emmy Broadmoor, the founder of a children's book website in the United States. Emmy is the mother of three children. One day one of her sons asked why people don't give each other books just like that. Emmy seriously thought about her son's question and came up with Book Giving Day to children to inspire kids to read more. She turned to her friends from social networks for help, and when millions of people supported her initiative, it was decided to call the holiday International Book Giving Day. After all, not only children, but also adults are pleased to receive an interesting book as a gift.

In the Centralized Library System of Ulyanovsk, the Donation Day campaign was first held 17 years ago and remains relevant to this day. The purpose of the action is to revive and maintain the traditions of charity. This year, the Day of Giving is especially symbolic, since 2021 has been declared the Year of the Book in the Ulyanovsk Region.

City librarians invite Ulyanovsk citizens to take part in the Day of Giving and donate books of any genre: fairy tales, fantasy, non-fiction, detective stories, classics, adventures, etc. Books can be brought to any city library. They will be transferred to social institutions of the city of Ulyanovsk.
