Elena Cherkas, Head of the  Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature Directorate became a speaker at the “UNESCO City of Literature” session. The community of Kahramanmaraş learned about the uniqueness of the UCCN, about the important role of literature in the development of Ulyanovsk, about the fact that our city puts effort into the development of all creative areas - that way, our work is event more effective. Head of Directorate shared Ulyanovsk's experience of carrying out the projects “World Poetry Day”, “International Writers’ Residence”, “The Colors of Childhood Inspiration”, “This is Pushkin!” creative city tours, “Literary Interventions”

Speakers from Ulyanovsk were very welcome in the Turkish city. In the main cultural center named after the local poet Necip Fazil Kysakyurek, who is highly revered there, 150 people gathered - students and schoolchildren, professors of local universities, teachers of literature and the Russian language. The participants asked many questions about our city and about the writers.

People in Kahramanmaras love Russian literature very much; they enjoy reading books by A.S. Pushkin, F.M. Dostoevsky, L.N. Tolstoy, A.P. Chekhov and  I.A. Goncharov, the writer from Simbirsk-Ulyanovsk. It was Goncharov who became one of the key figures in the application to join the UCCN  as a writer who has shaped the literary heritage of our city.

In the finale, the organizers of this large-scale literary event thanked Elena Cherkas for her visit and presented a letter of gratitude for her participation in the IV International Days of Literature.
