In February of 2022 Ulyanovsk UNESCO City of Literature program office launched the Wonderful World project – an educational charity project created with the support of Podarok Sudbi Fund (‘Gift of Fate’ Fund).
Volunteers from ten different creative spheres took part in this project to introduce children to possibilities in creative work field. The Wonderful World project allowed the participants to engage in various creativity-related activities and acquire new skills. Since the project started in February, over 150 kids got a chance to improve their creative skills.
A quick reminder: creative industries are culture and creativity related spheres; creative entrepreneurs, communities and companies whose job is to make a creative product of significant economic value are usually associated with such industries.
The tenth, and finale, event of the project took place on the 27th of October, 2022 downtown at Vkusnoe Mesto cafe (‘Tasty Place’ cafe). A wooden toy maker, a member of creative community MiR (‘Masters and Craftsmen’) and Ulyanovsk creative industry representative Oksana Sahovskaya gave a class to children from the social rehabilitation center for minors Prichal Nadezhdi (‘Pier of Hope’).
Oksana Sakhovskaya promotes the historical and cultural heritage of Russia through the tradition of toy-making. In 2022, she took part in the UNESCO Creative Cities Festival Perekrestok (‘Crossroads’) and a fair-exhibition as part of the Interactive Craft Map of the Ulyanovsk Region project. She also took part in the finals of Tourist Souvenir-2022, the All-Russian competition.
Children learned new painting techniques to use acrylics for New Year's toys decorations, which helped kids to use their creative skills for self-expression. At the end of the meeting, during a tea party at a cafe, the children sat down together to share with each other what they have learned in class.
