The opening of the traditional for Ulyanovsk Festival of German culture "Days of Germany" will take place on August 19. All residents and guests of the city are invited to the upper tier of the Peoples' Friendship Park at 19.00. Entrance to the event is free.

The guests of honor were invited to the opening of the Festival - the regional representative for relations with the Ulyanovsk region of the German Embassy in the Russian Federation Nikolaus Witzthum von Eckstedt and the manager in the field of culture from Germany Cornelia Reichel, thanks to whom the "Days of Germany" are held in Ulyanovsk for the fifth year in a row.

“It is gratifying that the days of German culture have become a traditional event for our region. The development of partnerships with other countries, including Germany, has always been one of the important areas of our work, not only in the field of culture, but also in the economic and investment areas. This is a vivid example of how culture can have a positive impact on strengthening comprehensive international cooperation,” said Sergey Morozov, Acting Governor – Chairman of the Government of the Ulyanovsk Region.

On this day, an unusual photo exhibition will open in the park: one part of it - "Focus on the East" - was provided to Ulyanovsk by German partners from the KulturAktiv association (Dresden, Germany), and the other - "Focus on the West" - was created by Ulyanovsk professional photographers and amateur photographers. Both parts of the exhibition demonstrate a different vision of people from different parts of the world of Eastern and Western culture, lifestyle, stereotypes and realities. The exhibition will run in the Peoples' Friendship Park throughout the Festival - until August 27.

Matthias Schumann (Dresden) curated part of the exposition called “Focus on the East”, he also took part in the selection of works for the creation of the Ulyanovsk part of the exposition. Matthias will visit Ulyanovsk as part of the Days of Germany Festival and will deliver a welcoming speech at the opening of the exhibition.

“When we were creating our exhibition, we asked young photographers what they think of the East. My choice regarding photographs dedicated to the West is very subjective, and this is just an occasion to discuss the topic of photography and different views of the world,” says Matthias.

On the opening day, the female cover duet Sunday will perform - according to the girls, they perform exceptionally good, warm and sunny music from different times in their own arrangements based on acoustic sound.

The grand opening of the Festival "Days of Germany" traditionally becomes a real holiday for the citizens and guests of Ulyanovsk - this year the organizers invited the German duet Liza & Kay from Hamburg (you can get acquainted with the work at the link).

The festival "Days of Germany" in Ulyanovsk is implemented by the directorate of the "Ulyanovsk - UNESCO City of Literature" program in partnership with the Department of Culture and Leisure for the Population of the Administration of the City of Ulyanovsk, the "Ulyanovsk - Cultural Capital" Foundation, with the support of the German Embassy in Russia, the Goethe Institute in Moscow and association Kultur Aktiv.
