On February 21, the whole world celebrates mother language day. The holiday was established in 1999 by the decision of the 30th session of the General Conference of UNESCO. Each nation is a unique culture, history, traditions, way of life. And, of course, the language. Preserving the language base of both a large nation and the smallest nation is a very important task. This is what makes the holiday so significant for every person in the world.
In the Ulyanovsk region, the tasks of the holiday of the native language are especially reverent, given the multinational composition of the region. An example of this is the model specialized library No. 17 "Commonwealth" of the municipal budgetary institution of culture "Centralized Library System" in Ulyanovsk. This is a mass library of a universal profile, whose activities are aimed at preserving and developing the culture, history, traditions of the peoples living in Ulyanovsk and popularizing the national book and reading in their native language. The library has been actively cooperating for many years with the Ulyanovsk regional national-cultural autonomies, with the centers of Mordovian, Chuvash and Tatar culture. Key activities of the library: information center for the peoples of the Volga region and labor migrants; a platform for cultural, educational and socially significant events.
Another example of a reverent attitude to the International Mother Language Day is the events held as part of its celebration. From February 20 to February 22, the department of culture and leisure of the population of the administration of the city of Ulyanovsk, MBUK "Centralized Library System" Ulyanovsk and the program "Ulyanovsk - UNESCO City of Literature" will hold a series of events dedicated to language and culture
Sunday, February 20, at 12:00 local time on the basis of the library No. A. S. Pushkin for high school students there will be a library lesson dedicated to the International Mother Language Day “My language, make friends with me”. On the same Sunday, February 20, the quiz "International Mother Language Day" for middle school students will be held in library No. 34.
Monday, February 21, promises to be full of interesting events. At 13:00 in the library No. 1 "World of Arts" students of the 4th grade will have an informative excursion through dictionaries and reference books "Native language - be friends with me!". For children, this will be a great opportunity to learn about the importance of their native language in the life of society.
At the same time, at 13:00, in the specialized library No. 4 named after E. A. Yevtushenko, an hour of literature will be held for the International Mother Language Day “Native language, how beautiful you are!”.
For younger students on January 21 at 11:00, library No. 6 named after. D. A. Granina will hold a book-illustrative exhibition and a quiz "Treasures of the native language." At the same time, on the basis of the library No. V.V. Rozanov, younger students will be able to immerse themselves in the game program "In the country of the Russian language."
Within the walls of the specialized library No. 15 named after. N. N. Blagov will be glad to see you at the philological game "New in Russian", which will be held on January 21 at 13:00. No less exciting is the linguistic game for knowledge of the rules of the Russian language "Literacy is a step to wisdom" for students in grade 5 in the family library No. 18. The game will start at 14:00 local time.
The celebration of International Mother Language Day will continue on February 22. In the program for Tuesday you will find:

• Public lecture on Mother Language Day for students and high school students "Language as a means of communication and a form of existence of national culture" in the MBUK CBS Library No. 12 named after. V. I. Dahl (beginning at 14:00 local time);
• Literature hour "Seven-colored rainbow of the human word" in the department of the specialized children's library No. 28 (beginning at 14:00 local time).
