The Ulyanovsk - UNESCO City of Literature program actively cooperates with representatives of the international community - writers, poets, representatives of the creative international community - writers, poets, representatives of the creative industries. And the most important element of such interaction is the English language.
Today at the Central Library. I. A. Goncharova a group of students from Ulyanovsk State University are undergoing translation practice. Graduates of the 4th year of the Institute of International Relations of Ulyanovsk State University will translate prose and poetry of modern Ulyanovsk authors into English for seven days. Among them are young writers, laureates and diploma winners of the regional youth award "First Dew", whose works were published in the collection of young writers "Image of the Word". These authors were: Osokina Alina, Mironova Anastasia, Bogdanova Ekaterina, Nikolaev Sergey, Efremova Daria and others.
UNESCO Program Manager Natalya Dashuk noted:
“We thank our partners - the Institute of International Relations of the Ural State University for the prompt organization of a group of volunteer translators. Translation into a universal international language of communication will bring many advantages - firstly, these works will be available on the site - "Ulyanovsk - UNESCO City of Literature", and secondly, it will expand the possibilities of the authors themselves - they will be able to take part in international competitions "
It is worth noting that this is not the first experience of working with cultural institutions for volunteer translators: previously they were engaged in translation for Ulyanovsk museums and participated in other volunteer programs.
Ulyanovsk, as a UNESCO City of Literature, seeks to popularize literature, expand the geography of recognition of authors. And due to the fact that the works of local authors will be embodied in a foreign language, they will be able to recognize their work far beyond the borders of their native country.
